Breede River Hospice operates in the Western Cape, caring for patients with life threatening illnesses in the communities of Bonnievale, Robertson, Ashton, Montagu and McGregor.
We provide Palliative Care to our patients who, most commonly, are diagnosed with Cancer (41%), HIV/Aids (19%), Chronic (21%), and TB (19%). On average we have 320 patients on our patient records at any given time of the month.
Our care is provided at the home of the patient by a team of trained and passionate professionals and wonderful volunteers. This team consists of a doctor, social workers, spiritual counsellor, care-givers, bereavement volunteers and care-giver volunteers. The patient always remains at the centre of this team, leading the team in every individualised care plan.
We are one of 22 member hospices, of a total of 202 nationally, to have been awarded 5-star status from our national umbrella body, called Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa (HPCA). Each member hospice is responsible for raising its own funds and give care appropriate to their communities, i.e. In-patient Unit, or home-based care, or a combination of home based care and in-patient unit.
Hospice brings care, hope and support for those who need it.
Hospice promotes quality in life, dignity in death and support in bereavement for those living with a life-threatening illness.
Hospice care is free of charge.
