Legacy / Bequests
WHO IS BREEDE RIVER HOSPICE AND WHY ENTRUST US WITH YOUR LEGACY?
We are a registered NPO and PBO that has been providing free palliative care to the community of the Langberg for more than two decades. We have strong community ties and serve everyone, regardless of race, religion or background. Our specialised service is offered to all who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting or life-threatening illness. Our mission is simple; to provide quality of life through hospice care. By doing this, we return dignity and hope to our patients and their families during this most difficult time. Why do we need your help? We do not receive any funding from government, and rely solely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to keep our doors open. By leaving us a bequest, you can help ensure that we continue to help those in need, for years to come.
WHAT BENEFIT DOES A BEQUEST HOLD FOR YOU?
Apart from leaving a legacy, and making a lasting difference, by remembering Breede River Hospice in your Will, it will exempt such part of your estate from estate duty. Section 4(h) of the Estate Duty Act determines that bequests made to approved public benefit organisations (PBO) qualify for a deduction from the value of your estate before estate duty is determined.
WHAT EXACTLY IS A BEQUEST?
A bequest is a sum of money, items of property or possessions left in your Will to another person, group, organisation or charity. There are different ways of structuring a bequest, such as a specific sum of money or item, a percentage of the value of your estate, the residual (or a percentage of it) or an insurance policy. Your financial advisor, attorney or banker can assist you and advise you on what would be best for you.
HOW DO I MAKE A BEQUEST?
It is important to obtain expert advice from your financial advisor, attorney or banker before drawing up a Will or making changes to it. Should you wish to leave us a bequest we recommend the following wording, as a starting point: “I bequest to the Breede River Hospice, registered NPO number 036-816-NPO, and PBO Exemption number 18/11/13/2935 the ……..” If you already have a Will, you can change your Will through a Codicil which is then read together with your Will. This Codicil will name Breede River Hospice as a beneficiary. If you choose to make a bequest to Breede River Hospice, please let us know, as we would love to thank you for your generosity. There is no obligation, and should you wish to change your Will at a later stage, we will fully understand, but it will help us with our planning if we are aware. We will ensure we keep your information strictly confidential.
